Faro, Portugal – On November 21st and 22nd, partners from across Europe gathered in Faro for the CisWEFE-NEX project’s General Meeting, marking an important phase in the development of the Circular Systemic Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus. The two-day event, organized by Associação In Loco and BIOAZUL, focused on advancing the project’s goals related to sustainability and the integration of water, energy, food, and ecosystem sectors.
The first day featured a visit to the Corta Vento demonstration site in Portimão, where several significant developments took place:
- Signing of the Land Rental Contract: The agreement for the demonstration site marked a pivotal moment, ensuring the project’s upcoming activities will have a designated space for implementation.
- Local Support: The project receive a warm welcome from the landowner and officials from Portimão municipality, who expressed their support for the project’s local impact and its alignment with broader environmental goals.
- Press Conference: Held to publicly present the project’s vision and objectives, emphasizing its relevance to European Union initiatives such as the EU Green Deal and the Farm to Fork strategy.
During the event, discussions centred on various topics crucial to the success of the project, including stakeholder engagement, environmental studies, and technical work packages. Partners from different sectors explored potential solutions aimed at promoting sustainable practices within the water, energy, food, and ecosystem nexus.
The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders, with an emphasis on overcoming challenges related to climate change, resource scarcity, and pollution. The integration of circular systems was identified as a key strategy for achieving long-term sustainability in these interconnected sectors.
